Pyramid of Interventions is a system of steps that allows teachers and students to work together to pin point areas of difficulty in the students' academic, social, or emotional life. Teachers meet every three weeks with Principal Garland and Counselor Allred as a team to highlight students who have improved academically, emotionally, and socially as well as those students who are now struggling or who are continuing to struggle in some way.
Teachers fill out a Google Form prior to our meetings and identify specific subjects and issues that a student is struggling with in their class or advisory session. Parents/Guardians have been contacted before the Pyramid Meeting is held so that they are aware of their student's needs and struggles and improvements.
After a student has entered the Pyramid, they are on a path to advocacy, tutoring, and self-improvement!
Students will follow this Ladder of Improvement (Students enter the Pyramid at various places with various needs; all students are addressed on a case by case basis.): (1.) Teacher and/or Adviser identifies student in need, (2.) Teacher meets with student to address issues., (3.) Teacher notifies Counselor Allred and/or Principal Garland about issue., (4.) Teacher enters student's name onto the Pyramid Form., (5.) Staff meets and discusses needs and observations about the issue(s) the student is having., (6.) Student may meet with the staff as a group, with parents and staff as a whole, or with individual staff members and/or Allred and Garland. Social Services may be contacted at this point also depending on the situation., (7.) Student may be placed on lock down, a behavioral/attendance/academic contract, or be placed in ECA Peer Tutoring or JCC Academic Tutoring., (8.) Student will meet with their Adviser or Counselor Allred weekly one-to-one until the situation is resolved and signs of improvement and/or stabilization are shown.
